Without running water in the homes the people of the hill tracts must head to the river to wash or to inland pools. The rushing river may be cleaner but the stagnant inland pools retain the suns' warmth and are therefore warmer. A difficult choice - this woman has obviously chosen not to take her morning bathe in the cold river.
