Pushing the boundaries of humour

Engeland,
Groot-Brittannië

Saucy postcards were once considered so risqué that they were confiscated by police on the grounds of obscenity. Thick with double-entendres, the images may have been a hit with British holidaymakers who bought up to 16 million of them every year during the 1950s, but the Conservative government of the time took a different view and felt they were a source of moral corruption.
Artist Don McGill, nicknamed ''the king of the saucy postcards'' was charged with publishing obscene images. He pleaded guilty. Four of his cards were immediately banned and 17 withdrawn from sale.
It is surprising how boundaries change and how innocent the majority of these "obscene" cards actually were.
In Herne Bay a seaside town in Kent, a row of beach-huts depict some of he postcards.
