Rickshaws

Bangladesh

We have visited the china clay hills and lake and now we are going back to the village where we are staying with our rented rickshaws. The journey is tough for our drivers, the paths are sandy and dusty and of course there is always the challenge of getting them on the ferries.
The drivers and the people in the village think we are a little crazy. We rented two rickshaws, believing that we are too much for one driver to cycle around for the day. The first driver, told us - no problem, one rickshaw good, two rickshaws much thaka. We called a second driver over and thought he would jump at the chance of money, but he also said, no no, one rickshaw bas (enough). We finally convinced them that we really wanted two rickshaws and as we pulled away rickshaw wallahs and the people in the village were talking and laughing at the situation. I would have loved to have known what was being said.
