This is the school boat, or rather I should say a floating school. “Shikkha Tori”, or boats of education, are providing primary education to children in the Haor areas who do not have any government primary schools nearby. The boat education program, allows children of the Haor areas to avail lessons provided by skilled teachers.
10-year-old Subrata, said: “I asked my father to send me to school but he could not, as there is no primary school within four kilometers of our house. Now I can attend floating school with other children of the village.
The boat education program was launched in 2013 with 12 boats, each providing education to 30 children between the ages of eight and ten. The large-sized boats are well-decorated with blackboards, various charts, and different education accessories, while students take their lessons sitting on mats.
