We leave Kanchipuram on an express bus, and arrive in less than three hours in Gingee. A non-descript small town with only one barely decent hotel but ran by nice people.
Why stop at Gingee you may ask. The area surrounding Gingee is flat except for three hillocks on which the Gingee Fort complex is built. Krishnagiri to the north, Rajagiri to the west and Chandrayandurg to the southeast. The three hills together constitute a fort complex, yet each hill contains a separate and self-contained citadel.
We climbed all three during our stay, Rajagiri being the highest and steepest, at a height of 240m which doesn't sound much but I remember puffing and blowing that morning to reach the summit.
