Looking at this photo, I am reminded of how fascinated our young daughter was when we returned to Europe having spent her first years in India, without shop windows. She would stand in the hoogstraat and stare and play with her reflection for ages.
Glass fronted shops were a rarity in Indian cities at that time, now India boats not only shop windows but modern shopping malls grander than we see here in NL. Luckily, when you get off of the beaten track a little there are many shopping streets that remain just as they were.
Here on the left a grocer sits pensively waiting for custom, on the right his neighbor sells shoes stacked in boxes and covered with dust at the back of his shop. The yellow advertisement catches the eye for this photo and splits the screen nicely.
My daughter would be perfectly at home here.
