Desert Friends

Georgena

The next morning after a beautiful starry night in the desert of Erg Chebbi, these two men (guides) were also our musicians the night before, they were drumming away with other guides from other group. In the morning they were up early and fooling around, they looked like good friends to me. I saw them standing against the tree and of course I just snapped away.

Georgena

Took this picture on the Djemaa el Fna Square in Marrakech. These two boys whom I think are good friends were walking in front of me,I did not notice that one had a snake around his neck, he turned around then I saw it, I was so scared that he would put that thing around my neck so I ran a few meters away and made a picture with my tele lens.

Buddies for all times

Georgena

While on the road of the 1000 Kasbah we made a photo stop. I was just one step out of the bus when these road vendors came up to me. They were selling cloths, what you can use for shawls or as table cloths. These two men wanted to have their photos taken, they seemed to be friends, because they came up to me arm in arm. Made a nice picture.

The Agdal Water Basin

Georgena

This is the Agdal Water Basin near the Royal stables in Meknes It was arranged by people under Moulay Ismail rule, this wide basin was designed to irrigate the gardens(Agdal) and also water for the 12000 horses in the stables,it was also an important water reserve. It is an artificial pool of 4 hectares with a trapezoidal plan, it measures a depth of 3.5 m. This formidable reservoir water is regularly supplied originally by ten water wheels connected by channels of nearly 25 km long, they were intended at the time to irrigate the gardens of Meknes. Anyway it makes a nice reflection.

Lonely Walker

Essaouira is the kind of place where you’ll sigh deeply and relax enough to shrug off your guarded attitude and just soak up the atmosphere Took this picture right on the boulevard in front of my hotel. It was a beautiful sunset, luckily the mist disappeared just before the sun started it's decent. I think the man in the reflection of the sun makes it a special picture.

St.Julien Bay

Georgena

St Julian's is a popular town, usually flowing with tourists, especially during the summer months. It is also a well-sought after destination by the Maltese. The small bay still shelters numerous coloured Maltese boats that are berthed here all year long. St Julians derives it's name from the Patron Saint of hunters. St Julians is a village for all ages and walks of life. At night the town comes alive.

Georgena

Took this photo early in the morning, the sun was just coming up before leaving our tents in Erg Chebbi. The guides were getting the camels ready for the 11/2 hour walk back to Merzouga, I walked up to this guide and tried to make a picture, He was very playful, every time I clicked he hid behind his camel, I finally got this shot. Was a funny moment.

While touring the the Hassan Mosque inCasablanca, we were taken down to the basement to the Ablution Hall, which was just as overwhelming as the top floor. There were two very beautiful hammans,In the shape of arches, one each for men and women, there was this pool in front which gave the arches a lovely reflection, they were not yet in use at that time.

The Eiffel Tower, nickname La dame de fer, the (iron lady) The tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. Built in 1889, has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair. I took this POV to avoid the hundreds of tourist standing below it.

Morning in Essaouira

Georgena

I made this phot oon my last day from my hotel room in Essaouira. The photo reminds me of this gospel song..... Behind, every dark cloud There's a silver lining And after each rain storm There's a bright new sky When troubles grieve you And friends deceive you Oh don't worry It will pass over by and by... When troubles pull your heart strings Don't be discouraged etc,. etc,...

"Island In The Sun" sung by Harry Belafonte As morning breaks, the Heaven on high I lift my heavy load to the sky Sun comes down with a burning glow Mingles my sweat with the earth below Oh island in the sun Built to me by my father's hand All my days I will sing in praise Of your forest waters, your shining sand I see woman on bended knee Cutting cane for her family I see man at the water-side Casting nets at the surfing tide Oh island in the sun Built to me by my father's hand All my days I will sing in praise Of your forest waters, your shining sand.......

And when it’s twelve o’clock, We climb the stair, We never knock, For nobody’s there . . . Just me and my shadow, All alone and feelin’ blue . . .

The Long and Winding.

Georgena

Looking at this photo reminds me of this song by The Beatles. The long and winding road That leads to your door Will never disappear I've seen that road before It always leads me here Lead me to your door. The wild and windy night That the rain washed away Has left a pool of tears Crying for the day. Why leave me standing here? Let me know the way. Many times I've been alone And many times I've cried, Anyway you'll never know The many ways I've tried. And still they lead me back To the long, winding road You left me standing here A long, long time ago Don't leave me waiting here Lead me to your door.

Camels awakening in..

Georgena

The sun rising at Erg Chebbi, what a beautiful sight. I was supposed to get a wake up call at 5 A.M. but somehow I did not. When I awoke everyone was already up on a nearby hill waiting for the sunrise. So I took my camera and walked around the camp. The Camels were all still sitting (their sleeping position) just awakening, the sun was just coming up and the guide was starting to get them ready for the 1 1/2 hour ride back to the jeeps. ( The black spots on the ground are Camel droppings)

I made this photo of the water carrier in his typical costume in Rabat. Long ago in Morocco, water carriers used to sell drinking water for a living from metal cups which they wear round their necks - but these days they dress up in the original costume and pose for photos for the tourist, this way they can still earn a living.

This is the King's Palace in Fez. We drove down a long beautiful avenue lined with palm trees to get there. It is one of the most beautifully decorated palaces I have ever seen. Beautiful inlays of colored stones and hand carved Ceder wood. Had to wait a long time to make this picture with no tourist in front of the beautiful massive carved (golden) doors.
