Over mij
My passion for photography began only ten years ago but my passion for travel began more than 40 years ago with an overland journey from England to India.
India stole my heart and became my home for 10 years and Asia became my favourite continent having travelled to almost every Asian country, including countless time to India, eight times to Burma and more recently twice to Bangladesh.
I enjoy taking photographs of people and environmental portraits, I love colour and textures.
Winning Reisreporter van het Jaar in 2013, took me outside my comfort zone. My prize was a photographic trip to Ecuador. A new continent and a new challenge, - landscape photography.
It was a wonderful trip, spectacular scenery from the heights of Andes Mountains to the Amazon Rainforest. The report of my trip is published in the Columbus magazine edition 49 and some photos are here in my gallery.

The tuk-tuk driver's.
Next to our guest house in Kumbakonam, on a stretch of wasteland about the size of three football pitches, was a small shanty town. Many of the Kumbakonam's tuk-tuk drivers lived here. I noticed this tuk-tuk with Che hand painted on the back awning and took a photo. The young daughter came out of their hut, she intrigued in what I was doing, me intrigued by how beautiful she looked in her white school uniform and gleaming gold. I showed her the photo that I had just taken, she stood next to the tuk-tuk, looking first at Che and then at me. I grabbed the opportunity to take her portrait with Che.:)
Hide and Seek
She was playing hide and seek with her brother in the temple in Mandu, with her natrual coloured shawl around her shoulders she blended into her surroundings only those eyes gave her away.......
Farmers - Devotees
I mentioned the other day that a pilgrimage can be taken at any time but mainly just prior or after a big life event. I met these Vishnu devotees in Kanchipuram, they are farmers from the same village, after the terrible, non-existent rains this year their pilgrimage was in hope of a better harvest. We spent some time with them in the temple, friendly people and wonderful photo opportunities.

Straatbeeld Pushkar
Er staan meer dan vijfhonderd tempels in en om Pushkar, hoewel sommige, zoals de schitterende Vishnutempel, verboden zijn voor niet-hindoes. Het belangrijkste heiligdom van Pushkar, de Brahmatempel, huisvest een vierhoofdig beeld van Brahma, en is een van de weinige tempels in India die aan hem is gewijd. Ben je de tempelbezoekjes zat ga dan lekker door de straatjes slenteren en genieten van de locals die altijd wel ergens mee bezig zijn.
Zicht op rijstterras.
Ik ben weer terug van een fantatsische rondreis door het zuiden van Yunnan. Een afwisselende reis met vele landschappen en diverse volkeren. De bijgevoegde foto is genomen vanaf het terras van ons guesthouse Jacky's. Je kijkt uit over de Duoyishu rijstterrassen. Je stapt werkelijk je kamer uit en dan is dit het uitzicht. Het was voor mij een paradijs van grote schoonheid. In Februari/maart staan de rijstterrassen onder water. Dat maakte het landschap toch wel heel speciaal.
Trekken door de sneeu
Als je via de Gokyo meren naar het Mt Everest base camp gaat, moet je de Cho la pass over (5330m). De avond er voor was er veel sneeuw gevallen,waardoor we voor en na de pas door diepte sneeuw moesten lopen net als de wandelaars op de foto. Pas een uur na de klim en een flinke afdaling was de sneeuw verdwenen, vlak voor we de Khumbu vallei in liepen. De totale trekking inclusief Gokyo duurt 17 dagen, i.p.v 12 voor de standaard route. Hierbij voeg je twee extra uitzichtpunten, plus een aantal schitterende meren toe aan de tocht. De Cho La pass is wel één van de zwaardere passen om over te gaan, een goede conditie is dan ook een must. Zeker als er sneeuw ligt, maar het is alle moeite meer dan waard!!
