MIJN OPA
De songtekst M'n opa is al vaker voorbij gekomen. In dit geval laat ik MIJN opa zien. De foto is gemaakt 3 jaar geleden, op zijn 90e verjaardag. We zijn met hem teruggegaan naar zijn geboortedorp Gorinchem, waar ik deze foto van hem maakte. Vandaag is opa 93 jaar geworden. Elke zondagmiddag bracht ie toffies voor me mee. In het mangrovebos
De mangrovebossen zijn de belangrijkste voedselbron voor de neusapen. Ze leven alleen op Borneo en een goede kans om ze te zien krijg je door een bezoek te brengen aan Bako National Park. Op de foto een mannetje verscholen in de mangrovetakken.

Wenteltrap
Op het Eiland Penang is het Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion te vinden, een prachtig landhuis in de hoofdstad George Town. De villa werd eind 19e eeuw gebouwd in opdracht van de Chinese zakenman en politicus Cheong Fatt Tze. Het gebouw heeft sterke Chinese invloeden en is ontworpen volgens de principes van Feng Shui. Het heeft een opvallende blauwe kleur met porseleinen details in de gevel en Jugendstilramen. Het huis heeft 38 kamers, vijf binnenplaatsen en zeven trappenhuizen. Eén trap heb ik hier op de foto staan. Het landhuis is naast museum ook in gebruik als hotel en als gast mag je overal foto's van maken.

Hello little girl
Dit meisje behoort tot de Orang Asli. De naam Orang Asli betekent eigenlijk: oorspronkelijke bewoners. Er zijn nog ongeveer 60.000 Orang Asli. Ze zijn onder te verdelen in drie groepen: Senoi; Orang Malayu Asli; Negrito. De Senoi leven voor het merendeel in de Cameron Highlands. Zij zien eruit als Maleisiërs. De Senoi werken voornamelijk als dagloners op de theeplantages. Ze komen oorspronkelijk uit Cambodja, Vietnam en Noord Thailand. Waarschijnlijk was dat zo'n 6000 - 8000 jaar geleden. Het plafond van de Sint Pieter in Rome met de prachtige koepel is behoorlijk indrukwekkend. Even zo indrukwekkend vind ik het prachtige Koor "Ehre sei dir, Gott, gesungen" uit het Weinachtsoratorium van J.S. Bach. Ik ben zo vrij om dit werk van de protestante Bach te combineren met het katholieke heiligdom. De tekst: Ehre sei dir, Gott, gesungen, dir sei Lob und Dank bereit't. Niet zelden lees ik in deze rubriek tips over mooie fototijdschriften of -boeken. Deze maand is een prachtig fotoboek uitgekomen van een Nederlandse fotograaf waar ik met deze tip graag aandacht aan wil schenken. De titel van het boek is tevens de titel van deze tip: "Au! Er tikt een tijdbom in het Surinaamse Oerwoud". De fotograaf is Thijs Heslenfeld (1965, Hilversum). Hij publiceert in verschillende tijdschriften wereldwijd en heeft inmiddels 3 boeken uitgegeven: Au! Er tikt een tijdbom in het Surinaamse Oerwoud Hij maakte een reis van 3 maanden door Suriname en dat maakte zo'n indruk dat hij er een fotoboek aan heeft gewijd. De titel is een verwijzing naar de gelukszoekers die diep in het Surinaamse binnenland naar goud graven, een bedreiging voor natuur en bewoners. In de twee maanden daartussen maakte hij een reis langs de koudste, gevaarlijkste en meest afgelegen plaatsen ter wereld. Zijn beste foto's zijn gebundeld in het boek, samen met het Engelse logboek dat kapitein Klaas Gaastra van deze reis bijhield. In de hoofdstad van het eiland Skye, Portree, hebben wij geheel toevallig een doedelzakfestival mee mogen maken. Voor het defilé was er nog even tijd voor Fish & Chips. Mountaintop ?
De Ben Nevis is de hoogste berg van Schotland (1344m). De top bevindt zich de meeste dagen van het jaar in de wolken (meer dan 300 zeggen de statistieken). Er zijn zelfs mensen omgekomen doordat ze in de mist/wolken van de top zijn afgevallen. Oppassen dus en goed naar de weersvoorspelling kijken!
