When traveling I always look for the less touristic places. Even though I am still doing tourism I don't consider myself the average tourist.
Being in a different country, culture and environment can really change a person deeply, it happened to me multiple times. By experiencing how people live and breath elsewhere in the world it affects the inner soul and mind, positively as well as negatively.
Traveling is not always blue skies and roses as almost every travel blog on the internet states. There are challenges to overcome, fears to face and missions to complete. I'm not interested in how many countries someone has visited, I'm interested what the person learned from it and how it will affect his/her current/future life. I am not interested in visiting countries just for the sake of completing a list. Instead, I try to focus on experiences. Experiences can only partly be captured by a camera so there is always an additional story behind it. I truly believe this story is of great importance because it can trigger discussion, bring perspective and relate people in many ways...
'Local experiences are a must. Couchsurfing wherever possible. Combining those two will always get me off the beaten path...'
