Over mij
My passion for photography began only ten years ago but my passion for travel began more than 40 years ago with an overland journey from England to India.
India stole my heart and became my home for 10 years and Asia became my favourite continent having travelled to almost every Asian country, including countless time to India, eight times to Burma and more recently twice to Bangladesh.
I enjoy taking photographs of people and environmental portraits, I love colour and textures.
Winning Reisreporter van het Jaar in 2013, took me outside my comfort zone. My prize was a photographic trip to Ecuador. A new continent and a new challenge, - landscape photography.
It was a wonderful trip, spectacular scenery from the heights of Andes Mountains to the Amazon Rainforest. The report of my trip is published in the Columbus magazine edition 49 and some photos are here in my gallery.

The tuk-tuk driver's.
Next to our guest house in Kumbakonam, on a stretch of wasteland about the size of three football pitches, was a small shanty town. Many of the Kumbakonam's tuk-tuk drivers lived here. I noticed this tuk-tuk with Che hand painted on the back awning and took a photo. The young daughter came out of their hut, she intrigued in what I was doing, me intrigued by how beautiful she looked in her white school uniform and gleaming gold. I showed her the photo that I had just taken, she stood next to the tuk-tuk, looking first at Che and then at me. I grabbed the opportunity to take her portrait with Che.:)
Hide and Seek
She was playing hide and seek with her brother in the temple in Mandu, with her natrual coloured shawl around her shoulders she blended into her surroundings only those eyes gave her away.......
Farmers - Devotees
I mentioned the other day that a pilgrimage can be taken at any time but mainly just prior or after a big life event. I met these Vishnu devotees in Kanchipuram, they are farmers from the same village, after the terrible, non-existent rains this year their pilgrimage was in hope of a better harvest. We spent some time with them in the temple, friendly people and wonderful photo opportunities.

Bij de supermarkt
Bij een supermarkt in Mount Hagen zaten deze lachende mensen hun zelf geteelde groenten te verkopen. Ze hadden er duidelijk ''schik'' in. Op de muur was een mooie schildering aangebracht van de tonijn in blik die binnen in de supermarkt verkocht werd.
Jungle book aan de...
Voor € 3 kun je een bootje huren die je over de Yamuna river naar de achterkant van de Taj Mahal brengt. Op die manier zie je het prachtige mausoleum in een ander perspectief en dat ook nog zonder een enkele toerist. Je kunt er ook voor kiezen om nog verder naar links te varen. Daar tref je een vervallen tempel aan die gedeeltelijk is overwoekerd door de dichte vegetatie. Het deed me een beetje denken aan een beeld uit Jungle Book. Met wat fantasie zie je Mowgli lopen langs de oever, gevolgd door Baloe, terwijl Oetang Louie onderuitgezakt op het bordes van de vervallen tempel zit.
Lake of love
Het Kan Thar Yar meer in Hpa-An heeft een speciale functie. In het slaperige stadje, gelegen aan de Salween rivier en omklemd door een kartstgebergte is maar weinig te doen voor de Birmese tiener. Ja, de omgeving is werkelijk prachtig. Maar als je hier geboren bent dan zie je daar de schoonheid ook niet meer van. Dus wat moet je dan op een vrijdag- of zaterdagavond? Van een disco of een café is hier al helemaal geen sprake. En tja, als tiener heb je toch last van opspelende hormonen. Dus strijk je neer aan het Kan Thar Yar meer. Toevallig zitten er op het bankje twee meisjes. Maar voor de rest wordt het meer omgeven door (verliefde) stelletjes of groepje tieners die aan het dollen zijn.
