Aruba's vegetation has adapted well to its dry environment with desert landscape covered by rare cactuses, Aloe and the Kwihi Tree. Kwihi actually is an Indian word, unfortunatly I don't know what it means, sometimes it is mistaken for the Divi Tree but it has an entirely different shape. The local people use the wood from this tree for making furniture.
Sunset on Eagle Beach
I took this sunset photo at the Eagle beach one of the nicest beaches in Aruba. Not sure how it got that name, but it is the place where locals want to have a party. The sand is so pure you’ll swear it’s sugar, and water so calm, you’ll think you’re in a pool. ( No, I did not stick the bird on the branch) pure lucky shot.
In my last posted photo you see this Pelican diving. It is a Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is the smallest of the eight species of pelicans, although it is a large bird in nearly every other regard. It is 106–137 cm in length, weighs from 2.75 to 5.5 kg and has a wingspan from 1.83 to 2.5 m.

Down Town by Night
L. G. Smith Boulevard is the main street of downtown Oranjestad, and connects the city with San Nicolas. It was named after Lloyd Gaston Smith, general manager of the Lago oil refinery in San Nicolas from 1933 to 1946. At the time, Lago was owned by Standard Oil Co. Of New Jersey, later Exxon Corp. The Casino is in the center,my version by night.
The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) (previously also known as Pyrameis atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. The Red Admiral has a two-inch (45–50 mm) wing span. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn. This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red and black wing pattern. More specifically, the dark wings possess orange bands that cross the fore wings and on the outer edge of the hind wings; white spots on the dorsal fore wings near the front margin; reddish bars on dorsal surface of all four wings The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia and overripe fruit. This is quite a mouthful, thanks to Wikepedia. I took this photo at a butterfly farm in Aruba.

Iguana can be found all over Aruba, took this picture in the Wilhelmina Park in Oranjestad When the animals are frightened by a predator or humans, they will attempt to flee, and if near a water, they dive into it and swim away. If cornered by a threat, the Iguana will extend and display the dewlap under its neck, that is a flap of skin which hangs under its neck, they stiffen and puff up their body, hiss, and bob its head up and down at the aggressor,If threat persists the Iguana can lash with its tail, bite and use its claws in defense, they can become up to 2 meters long from head to tail
Yesterday I posted a couple of pictures of the Bon Bini festiva in Arubal, which takes place in the Fort Zoutman in Oranjestad. Since Portrait is the theme this month, i give it a try. This is one of the beautiful dancers.

Surfside Beach is a small beach just outside east of Oranjestad and just beside the runway at the Reina Beatrix International Airport. Beautiful blue sea and white sand, it is small beach, and close to the city A pefect place for spotters.

Of all the reptiles running through the hot and dry sand looking for shelter in among trees and cacti, the iguana is the most remarkable. A fully-grown male can reach a length of 2 meters including his tail. Should an iguana sense danger, its initial reaction is to change color, then it tries to find a place where it can camouflage better and blend in with its surroundings, if that is not possible they run as fast as possible, and they are surprisingly fast, they raise their bodies off the ground with their legs, and sprint off at an impressive pace, almost seeming to be running on tiptoe. These precious animals are still being hunted today. They are mostly relished in soups.
Aruba is considered one of the most tourism-friendly islands in the Caribbean, besides Papiamento most everyone speaks English, and they accepts the U.S. dollar, actually in Oranjestad everything is priced in dollars. Outside Oranjestad the prices are shown in Aruba guilders. Many years ago you could only get to the island by plane, now a days huge cruise ships docks there everyday in the high season, one bigger than the other, it is a beautiful sight watching these ships come in. I think they look like huge apartment buildings..
Palm Island is a small private island near the main land Aruba, which is an important tourist attraction. The island is a 5-minute ferry ride from the mainland, making it ideal for day trips and excursions. The island includes a small beach and a water park, in this park there is the gigantic bucket which slowly fills with water, at certain moment it just turns over and makes a big splash, kids and grown up seems to have a lot of fun standing under the "Waterfall"
Emotion in Motion
Yes "Emotions" what is that, It is the feeling you put into everything you do, physically and emotionally. Emotion is associated with mood, temperament, personality and disposition, and motivation. I took this picture while a group of dancers were giving a show at the Historical Museum in Aruba. You can see on the expression on this man's face that he is putting body and soul into the dance.
No, This is not carnival. Arubans are well-known for their fun, easy-going festivals and events. Also similar to the Bonbini festival is the weekly Caribbean festival This festival highlights Caribbean cultural heritage through traditional dance, music, food, and art. The festival begins with a music and dance performance, continues with an open-air street market. It is not only for tourist locals also enjoy these festivals. It was not easy to take pictures it was quite dark on the stage
Since the theme is Work this month thought this should be a appropiate photo. Took this in the Whillemina Park near Oranjestad, one man climbed up the coconut tree and this man brought them to the hotel. He must be a very strong man because those coconuts are very heavy.
Dive Dive Dive
I took this picture while sitting on the Becuti Beach having coctails It is unbelievable how these pelicans can be so accurate , they fly around quite high up above the water and when they spot a fish they just dive straight down even in between the people swimming in the water and bingo. It was not easy photographing because they move very fast and unexpected, many times I just had a splash of water and there is back lighting which makes this picture look B&W.
Swaying the Tumba
Every Tuesday evening the Bon Bini Festival happens rain or shine. "Bon bini" means "welcome" in Papiamento. It happens year-round at Fort Zoutman in Oranjestad and you can enjoy the Antillean dancers in their most beautiful and colorful costumes, swaying to the typical Aruban music played by the "Tingilini box".
The Wedding Cake
Another look at the pink building in the day time. Actually there are two of these building identicaly built, there is building separating the two. they are called Royal Plaza, also known as the pink cake building, it really looks like a wedding cake trimmed with white. icing. This pink Dutch-style building holds dozens of shops - many of which are jewelry stores., you can also buy design clothing and trinkets, in the middle is kind of court yard with little stands where yiou can buy souveniers It is the most photographed landmark building in the city.
Is het niet een Bounty Strandje. Arashi Beach, prachtig zwem water-strand en snorkelplekje. Mooie schaduwplekjes dmv palmbladerparasollen. Aanrader om de drukte te vermijden, maar Eagle Beach is ook prachtig, en hier hadden wij onze accomodatie aan liggen.
