Peafowls are best known for the male's extravagant tail, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, and the female a peahen.
The offspring are called peachicks.
The female peafowl is brown or toned grey and brown. Peachicks can be between yellow, to a tawny colour with darker brown patches.
The peacock makes a sort of croacking sound when he is courting.
