Although one of the pledges of Prime Minister Modi was to make public bathrooms, (basically a shower block, including showers, toilets, and washing facilities for clothes) available for all, and we did see many in the small towns we visited. The pledge is not fulfilled quite yet. Therefore, for some washing on the street is still a necessity.
