We stay in Kanchipuram but walk to the Varadharaja Perumal Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple stood tall and the gopura was majestic and inspiring from a distance as we walked along the Agrahara street, stopping first for a coconut. The 100 foot high gopura welcomed us and at the gateway we meet the first Vishnu devotees dressed in the traditional black.
In contrary to the quietness that surrounded the Shiva temple, here it is a hive of activity - the queues to enter the inner sanctum (only for Hindus) are forming.
