Mru people

Chittagong,
Bangladesh

Cees posted a photo a few days ago from Peshawar, a city which is now unable to travel to, it made me think. Unfortunately Bangladesh now has a negative travel advice and with good reason. The Chittagong Hill Tracts have been off limits for a few years, we feel very fortunate to not only have been able to travel twice to this amazing and energetic country but travel extensively the first time through the CHT.

Although the Mru or Murong people originally came from Arakan, Burma I have never met this ethnic tribe before.
Driven out In the 14th century, from Arakan by Khumis, a powerful tribe. They moved to the Hill Tracts of Bandarban and settled along the Sangui river.

Mrus eat boiled rice twice a day and consume all types of meat but hardly use spicy items in cooking curry. Drinking home made beer and rice wine are popular, and in a country that is completely dry, it is tolerated.
