Bye Bye Spring
To all my REIS REPORTERS colleagues ,with this lovely spring photo,I just want to say that I will be on holidays to Aruba and Curacao for the next 4 weeks. Till then...Bye...Bye....
Tea with a view
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Louise, Located in the heart of pristine Banff National Park, and within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I stayed here 3 days in all it's luxury, (eeehh!! I had a good deal). It was very cold -2 degrees,but having tea with a view like this was worth it. The view was breathtaking.
Hoodoos
The fairy chimneys with caps, mainly found in the vicinity of Urgup, have a conical shaped body and a boulder on top of it. The cone is constructed from tufa and volcanic ash, while the cap is of hard, more resistant rock such as lahar or ignimbrite. They are also called Hoodoos. Various types of fairy chimneys are found in Cappadocia.
Boats
I was at Lake Louise the beginning of August, expecting warm sunny weather, to my disappointment it was cold,early in the morning it was -2 degrees. I used the situation to make some very exciting pictures,like this one with the mist on the lake. This is a picture of the boats you can rent and row around the lake in stead of walking around it.
Luxury and Grandeur
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a Fairmont Hotel on the eastern shore of Lake Louise, near Banff, Alberta. This hotel began as a simple, single level log cabin, in 1890, intended as a day lodge for visiting mountaineers. This hotel has a long history, many fires destroyed the building and every time it was rebuilt and a wing was added The original Chateau was gradually built up at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway This is just the middle part of the building.
Prairie Country
Leaving the majestic Rocky mountains behind us on route from Banff to Edmonton, you drive through prairie country , green rolling hills and pastures, with farm houses and hay rolls, sheep and cows, also very beautiful. Took this from the car, was no place to park.
Rakshas
Thailand has a very old culture that has created beautiful sacred art work for thousands of years. The Rakshas is one to them and can be seen in many temples throughout Thailand. I took this one on the island of Koh samui, in the backgound you can see the Big Budha.
Mount Kerkeslin
Mount Kerkeslin is a prominent peak found south of Jasper and in the Athabasca River Valley. This looming mountain stands 2,984 m (9791 ft) high and is clearly visible from Athabasca Falls and the Athabasca River Bridge.
Breathtaking
On the way from Jasper to Banff, you see the most breathtaking views. I took this photo when we were just leaving the Columbia Ice Fields, you can just see the parking lot on the right. Actually the whole route in the Rocky Mountains is beautiful.
Dancing Queen
In many towns and cities, the Queen's Day celebrations begin on the evening of April 29. There are public music performances and street parties. Some events continue until daybreak when the actual Queen's Day events begin. Children display their old toys on the streets to sell in the hope to make some pocket money,they show of their talents singing dancing etc. This little girl was showing off her dancing talent.
Na Muang 1
Na Muang 1 Waterfall is situated 10 km south from Nathon at Ban Thurian. The waterfall is a popular tourist attraction on Ko Samui. The Waterfall can be reached by vehicle,It is 18 metres high. The waterfall is rated as one of the most beautiful on Koh Samui island. Na Muang 1 Waterfall is most spectacular in December or January at the end of the rainy season, when they swell with rainwater I was there middle November just before the rainy season started, too bad.
Cascade Mountain
The imposing Cascade Mountain (2,997m) famously associated with the town of Banff, looms over the town of Banff . The mountain was named in 1858 for the cascading waterfall that is located on the southern face of the mountain.
Gobble Gobble
The domestic turkey is a descendant of the Wild Turkey and features prominently in the menu of the U.S. and Canadian holidays of Thanksgiving and that of Christmas in many countries. Turkeys have a distinctive red fleshy wattle or snood that hangs from the top of the beak , which gives them that interesting look. I don't know if this photo will be considered wildlife,but he was walking around somewhere in the open. I took zoomed in close,they can be very aggressive.
Curious
The Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world, attaining a height of 5.5m, its incredibly long neck accounting for much of its height. Giraffes are fairly social animals and get together in herds from time to time. However, there is no group bonding. I took this photo from the bus leaving the Kruger park , the chauffeur had to stop the bus to let them cross the road. This photo was taken with an analog camera and was put on CD.
Peek A Boo
The North American Elk or Wapiti (Shawnee Indian name meaning white rump) The males have large antlers, new antlers grow each year the antlers are shed (dropped) in late winter, begin growing in spring and have velvet covering in spring and summer. The velvet rubs off in late summer,they do this by rubbing the antlers on tree trunks and branches and it can bleed as well, leaving light grey antlers . Took this on the way to Banff.
Hungry Chicks
This is a Canadian Tree Swallow feeding her chicks. The Canadians call these birds Swallows, they look just like our Mus. They make their nests in the hollow of dead White Birch trees,they feed on Insects, Berries and Seeds. Took this photo somewhere in Edmonton.
On The Look Out
Ground squirrels, they are sometimes called "Dak Rats" or "gophers", Gophers create a large community of tunnels with large mounds of dirt at their entrances, frequently referred to as "towns". Adult gophers will frequently stand watch at the entrance to a tunnel and whistle when predators are spotted, causing all the other gophers to run for the safety of the tunnels. A gopher town can easily spread to take over large sections of prairie or mountain meadows and may have a population in the thousands. Farmers usually kill them because they destroy their crops.
Pretty Girl
At the end of the dry season in a fishing village the people of Baan Tai celebrates the coming of the rain season. The main attraction of the celebration is the beauty contest of little girls from 4 to 10 years old. they are quite professionally made up. The stage was very high that is why my point of view is from below but this little girl caught my attention with her cross eyes,I thought she looked cute.
Dreamer
Yesterday I posted a photo of a fishing village, while on my way there I saw this little boy with his brightly colored shirt sitting on a wall staring out to the sea like he was dreaming. With hand signs I asked if I could take a picture and he nodded yes. I wanted to ask him about school and what he was thinking but he could not understand, so I gave him candies and went on my walk.
Fishing village
Baan Tai is quiet village in the southwest of Koh Phangan it has has the longest stretch of beach. There are quite a few fishing villages along the way. This is one of them.
Thirsty Camel
Took this photo on a trip to a Bedouin village near Hurghada Coming back from a ride on the back of an Camel I was thirsty but this camel was also thirsty, the guide gave him a bottle of water to my astonishment he just drank all the water out of the bottle. The photos of Egypt are all scanned photos.
Deserted
This is not a holiday photo but it has to do with travel. I went to schiphol this afternoon, and this is what the departure hall looked liked at 3.00 o'clock this afternoon, all because of an erupted volcano on Iceland.
Romm with a view
This was the view from my balcony in Aswan,breathtaking,the Nile the sand dunes and the Aga Kahn Mausoleum Mohammed Shah Aga Khan was educated in Europe and succeeded his father in 1885 to become the 48th imam. He was succeeded by his grandson, Karim AGa Khan upon his death in 1957. The Mausoleum is no longer open to the public This is a scanned photo.
