some experiences well, althought the news can be awful about Guatemala, but with common sense you can travel perfectly in this country! just take shuttlebusses... Semuc: a real "you have to go" place I prefer to stay at El Retiro in Languin..... the most beautifull hostel i stayed, with good food!!!!!! the tour to the pools and cave is really great! If you just want to see the pools, its easy to take a pick up from Languin (so i should say: don't stay in Semuc, but choose El Retiro in languin). Lago Atitlan: San Marcos is sooooooo great, not a party place, but just a really nice place! If you want to do hiking there, you need a guide (with the real equipment), i can strongly advise to go with Mario Gomez. He lives near the Iglesia (church), asked around there for him or call him: 5540 5819 (please if you phone, you have to speak a little spanish). to walk from San Marcos to Santa Cruz will take 4 or 4 1/2 hours and will cost 150 quetzales. He is great and with him it's a safe and very pleasant walk!!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

some experiences in El Salvador We came from Leon to San Salvador...possible bij Tacabus or chickenbus (1 chickenbus). We took the chichenbus... that was alright, but asked the driver to call a taxi to bring you to your hotel in San Salvador. Good hostel (with real hot water): JoAn's Hostel; telephone: 503 78607157 Other cool things: Juajuah: Anahuac -> the 7 waterfalls tour is really great! Tacuba / Parque El Impossible: you can do a biking tour from the parc to the beach!! i really liked this tour!!! http://www.imposibletours.com/en/tours_en.html (hostel: papy y mamy) From El Tunco you can take a shuttle bus direct to Copan in Hondarus (but also to Antigua in Guatemala). Have fun!!!

Granada: hire a bicycle.... so nice to bike around go around with 2 or 3 people with a taxi to canapy, vulcano, little villages, masaya...... so nice, you can stop where you want and see such a nice things! so much nicer than a tour!!! Ometepe: a bike is again really nice option! climb the maderas! swim at the top go to ojo del agua, just so nice! stay in between the 2 vulcanos, really great!i loved to stay at El Encato http://www.goelencanto.com/eng_pages/hotel.html Leon viavia is a nice place to stay quetzaltrekkers: telica vulcano tour is just a nice vulcano trip! Loved it! it's possible to go from Leon to El Salvador or Guatemala... just see the travelinfo at ViaVia cafe! Dangers: we only came across robbery stories around masaya..... don't go in taxi's with other people don't hitchhike or go with people in a car We came across some bad experiences from people who did the things above.... a woman lead gang who will take all your valuables and force you to take money out of the bank. For the rest, Nica is really really safe!!!!
