In the FORET D’AITONE you can fine some old Laricio pines surviving in the island’s high forests,
They reach a height of 40 m making them the tallest conifers in Europe. in the 17th century the Genoese used to prize the trees as ships’ masts, beams and cross pieces of the then powerful navy.
They are now protected.

The bark of the tree just begged to be photographed as it twirled and twisted up the laricio pine tree and the leaf.............................
